Live action role-playing game
What is an escape game?
Escape from a room in a limited time. The escape game is usually played by a group of people, even if concepts for one person do exist (e.g., “Lockdown” in Singapore).
Players must look for clues scattered in a room in order to combine them and advance in the puzzle. The goal ? To leave the room but also to solve a main problematic like a murder or search for a treasure.
Most escape rooms are built around a story, although others offer a succession of logical games disconnected from each other for a different atmosphere.
According to an article by economist.com (The Economist) dated from January 2019, the 1st escape was allegedly launched in Japan in 2007. Nowadays there could be more than 10.000 Escape Games around the world.
World famous Red Bull company organised the 1st world championships back in 2017. In April 2019 in London, 23 national teams competed for the number one spot !
Hollywood studios even made a movie about what we can call a global phenomenon.
Special effects
Special effects are essential to contribute to the general atmosphere to immerse the customers in a very particular universe according to themes defined by the director of the escape game.
They contribute to the atmosphere and genesis of emotions but also and especially to catch the customers’ attention at precise key moments of the game.
Among them, we can mention:
- Sound effects: Display of background music thanks to a simple audio player (stress feeling, dark and/or joyful music …), combination of sounds to certain objects or actions (some enigmas require the manipulation of audio files like inversions of his or the change in the speed of it)
- Lighting effects: Lightin, or lack of it, is part of the atmosphere, black light bulbs or UV lamps can create special atmospheres and anticipate the resolution of the enigma. The luminous atmosphere contributes greatly to give a theme to the game in which the participants are.
- Digital effects: Augmented or virtual reality, new technologies are at the service of digital and can be sources of many breakout games.
